No phone is worth a life |
||
|
Using your phone while driving might feel like a quick glance or a short reply, but that moment is enough to cause serious harm. You’re not fully in control of your vehicle, and that puts everyone around you at risk.
It’s against the law to use a handheld phone while driving. If you’re caught, you will get 6 points on your licence and a £200 fine. For new drivers, that means losing your licence straight away. In more serious cases, you could be taken to court, banned from driving, given a criminal record, or even face a prison sentence.
If a collision happens because of phone use, the consequences go far beyond a fine. You could seriously injure or kill someone. Families are left dealing with loss, and drivers often carry that guilt for the rest of their lives. Insurance costs go up, jobs can be affected, and your future can be permanently changed.
When we deal with these incidents, it’s not just a ticket. There are investigations, statements, possible arrest, and court proceedings. It impacts everyone involved, including victims, witnesses, and the wider community.
There are simple ways to avoid it. Put your phone away before you start your journey. Turn on do not disturb mode. Set your sat nav and music before you drive. If something is urgent, pull over somewhere safe and deal with it properly.
